The traps work great. Also that anticoagulant poison. If you use it make sure you put it deep in the hole/tunnel. And don't go crazy. Only one or two pellets should be fine. Both methods are labor intensive.

For a longer term solution a dog or cat that actually kills them. How do you get one that will hunt? I don't have an answer for that. Mine keeps the property in check, but I occasionally get a little gift at the door so don't go out in bare feet! Just be comfortable knowing Fifi will become part of the food chain and you can live with the risk or outcome.

If your property supports snakes they are the BOMB! They eat the babies. On the part of my property where they've taken up residence I have zero gophers. They're corn snakes...also known as rat snakes. Fitting name.

I too use the Victor Black Box Gopher Traps. They are safer than the open gopher traps and easy to set. I use two and have found placing them back to back in a tunnel works best.

I would recommend that you tether them down with a stake, otherwise, bears, coons, foxes may drag them off if they can't pull it out of the trap where it is.

This is true. Mostly I set the traps in my vegi garden, within an electric fence. But two years ago, I set my traps outside the fence, trying to catch the gophers before they got into my garden and did damage. I went out the next morning and saw where a critter had dug under the board I had over the traps. One of the traps was gone - I never found it. I don't know how you would tether the traps but it's worth a try if you have foxes and/or other predators around.

we used a strong cord (paracord) and a steel stake pounded in with a hammer. It actually helps the predators pull the gopher out as it holds the trap tight and they can pull against it

I had no more gophers after this big guy showed up last year. Intimidating but harmless to humans. Unfortunately he liked to sun on the road and someone ended him. (don't tell the gophers he's gone)
