FCC votes to give wireless carriers the ability to automatically block robocalls

Quote:
Robocalls are flooding cell phones, interrupting dinners, and scamming people out of money. Relief could finally be on the horizon, but perhaps at a cost.

The Federal Communications Commission voted on Thursday to give wireless carriers like Verizon the green light to block unwanted robocalls automatically for all customers. The move could curb a torrent of phone-based scams and unwelcome interruptions that have afflicted millions of consumers, said the FCC.

But, at the end of the article, some expressed the fear Mobile companies may decide to charge for this service; it should be free.

My land line is flooded with robo calls. Not so much on my cell phone, because I have crap cell service where I live, whether Verizon or AT&T. Sad that my primary communication line is flooded with Robo calls. My business line is not bothered much. Wonder what the difference is?

My home land line is also, MtRider. We are going to get rid of our land line as we get many hangup calls each day and are tired of listening to the no message stuff. We never answer unless we recognize who is calling.

But the robo calls are increasing on our iPhone and are a real PITA.

I wouldn't mind a small fee for this altho I wish it would be free. Hooray for this. I just hung up on another "Hello? Can I speak to the lady of the house?"

The phone companies are licensed by the FCC which is a federal agency financed by tax money. It should be mandatory.
