Howdy folks. Thought I'd say hello, since I'm new here. I'm acting in an official capacity  as "PR Guy" for the 285 TechConnect Radio Club for amateur radio operators. I'll be posting monthly meeting annoucements for the club, and if anyone has any questions about it, I'll try to respond. We're focused on technical topics, but all hams are welcome, as are those who are not yet hams, but are interested in the hobby.

Yes, I'm a "townie" now, but I do feel some community with mountain folks, as I lived up Coal Creek Canyon for a while, and, going back some more years, I used to show up sometimes at the Bryn Mawr and the Woodside. Some of you might have even seen me on stage. :yikes:

Hi Jed,

I have have the Ham Radio License Manual. My dad (long gone now) was a ham operator. I'd like to get my license, too. Glad to be able to make a contact with someone on this topic.

A few of us HAMs on Pinecam....W0JEK and W0SNO MountainWolfe if the manual is from when your Dad was a HAM it has changed quite a bit. You can actually study for your license online as well. www.hamtestonline.com It is wonderful!

Thanks for the link, Chocolove! I've seen some of the online links (even some practice test links)!

I recently purchased a new copy of the manual from Amazon.

Thanks for connecting.

Hi there, and welcome y'all.

In addition to 285 Tech Connect club(http://www.na0tc.org/doku.php?id=start), there is a Park County Radio club that meets at the Bailey Library. Their last meeting was March 9th. Here's their link:
https://www.ab0pc.org/

BTW, MountainWolfe, They also do license testing prior to the meeting. I took the tests before the last meeting and I used HamTestOnline to study after deciding to take it. I started studying on Monday, Mar 4, but didn't figure out the best way to study until Thursday, so plan A (pass all 3 tests) didn't work. But plan B went into effect and I am waiting for my General call sign to be assigned.

Too new to know what the '73' is all about, but I hope this is helpful.

Thanks LIV... that's good to know. I suspect one has to sign up for license testing ahead of time??

Also, in July and August the burro races use Ham operators for the Fairplay and Leadville burro races. We always need volunteers for these races. They are a lot of fun but can be long days although not as bad as they used to be. Check points are rather primitive (no restrooms) we supply water for the runners and sometimes some other goodies like carrots, trail mix, etc. it is really up to you. If you are interested or want more information please let me know. It is a great way to get some practice with your radio. 73, Choco W0SNO

You can actually just show up. From my understanding, there is a 'cram session' starting about 10:30 AM and the testing starts about 12:30-ish. (I showed up just before 12:30 and the testing had started for a couple people.) But that wasn't a problem. The VE's are easy going, accommodating, and awesome.
