Does anyone close to CR43 use Consumer Cellular as their cell phone provider? Our cabin is about 8.5 miles from the Loaf and Jug and at present, we have Century Link land line service, but would like to replace it.

Any recommendations?

we live on 47 and are almost 9100 - we also have landline as we don't get cell service unless we hang out the bedroom window, face north with left elbow pointing east with right finger on the right pointing south....seriously! That terrific, ugly tower they put up doesn't do a thing for us or people who visit!

We are about 5 miles up from the loaf and jug. We have AT&T and we get about 2 to 3 bars with them. T-Mobile seems to also work well up here with some of my family members getting 4 bars or more. Don't do Verizon, almost no service up here.

The ugly tower may be Choice Wireless.
It's almost a prepay contract but once you settle in, its great for internet and phone, close to your house.

I tried Consumer Cellular briefly a year or two ago. They put me on the AT&T network (They also used T-Mobile at that time.) Service at my home was terrible. I switched to Affinity Cellular which uses the Verizon network. Works pretty well for me and is priced right, as is Consumer. I think you have to be a AAA member to get Affinity, but that also is a bargain.

I do maintain a line line. I'd hate to have to count on my cell service if I needed to make a 911 call.

Thanks for all of the replies to my inquiry. Another question--are there any alternatives to internet service other than Century Link?

Again, my place is about 8.5 miles from the Loaf and Jug up CR43.

The tower has several carriers on it. You might just introduce yourself to your neighbors and see what carriers they have tried. Despite the comments to the contrary, Verizon works very well in at least 90% of the area. So do TMobile and at&t.

For internet, a satellite service like Hughesnet will certainly work, although if you are a corporate work from home type, they don't play well with VPN. If you don't know what that is then you won't be impacted.

Rise and Neteo are two radio services similar to cell. They are both excellent services and either one will come to your house at no charge to determine if you can get their signal.
