Bucksnort Saloon

We took two out of town guests to the Bucksnort Saloon last Sunday and I must say, I was quite disappointed.

The place is indeed rustic and has a lot of character but the food and service were terrible. My sister had a caesar salad and there were no croutons on it; mostly sad lettuce and cheddar cheese instead of parmasaun cheese. My brother in law had a barbecue sandwich with potato salad - the potato salad was in a little contaier that was less than 1/4 cup. My hamburger roll was soggy on both sides for some reason and quite unappetizing.

Our waiter spent most of the time we were there standing at the bar, talking with other customers. One of us had to leave our table twice to get his attention and, after our meal and waiting a while, we finally got up and paid on the way out.

The Bucksnort Saloon had a good reputation at one time but I will not go back. The place is for sale; I hope the new owners realize that good service and good food are the way to bring customers back for more.

Sounds like the same ol Bucksnort to me! Although I haven't been there in over a year, weekends in the summer were always a crap shoot. Crowded, with horrible, slow service. I typically had to get up and pay at the bar. In fact, I pretty much accepted it as normal protocol. No biggy. The food and portions were wildly inconsistent. Not that any of the food was especially good, just average at best. If they were out of one ingredient they'd substitute another. Sometimes they were simply out of an item. Eventually I would only go for the "ambience" and a beer. Not so much anymore. It is a unique place and a must see for out of town visitors. Just keep your expectations in check.

They are trying to sell the place.

The food has always just been ok it is a bar not a place you go for a great meal.

Since Joe Bye left we only go down a couple times a year and that is mostly if someone is in from out of town. Never went for the food we went for the drive and the music on Fridays and Saturdays.

All these comments are spot on. We tell visitors to go there to buy a t-shirt, nothing else :)

A look into Jeffco health department reports will certainly make you think twice about eating there. As SXM_Beach stated, buy a t-shirt, nothing else

For better or worse, I don't think the menu has changed since the 1800's. Although prices are now what you see in Breckenridge...sans the quality. A very "cool" place in a fantasy location. It could be soooo much more.

Laughing out loud. Sorry, but last time we went to the Bucksnort and were foolish enough to order food and beers, we left after 20 minutes, and told the rest of the patrons; if you ever see the waitress again, let her know we were thirsty and went for a beer.
What a joke.

I agree with you mtree. The place is quite interesting and old in a good way. Maybe if the place sells, the new owners will finally bring the BuckSnort back to what it once was - a fun place with good service and good food.

I did miss the "Mad Jack" newspaper head lines.

And DO NOT drink the water. They used to bring in water samples for testing (per state guidelines) and their samples always passed because they hyper-chlorinated them. They have a water treatment system (because they are so close to the river)but it hasn't been maintained for years.
