Well, I am done with Kaiser. I purchase my own health insurance, not quite old enough for Medicare. I’ve been with Kaiser for 15 years and have had enough serious flubs that I’ve had enough. I know many doctors here are not taking new patients. Do you have recommendations? TIA!

Have you contacted your insurance company to see if they can give you a list of participating doctors who are accepting new patients? Earlier this year I did find some local (Evergreen) doctors who were accepting new Medicare patients (which I realize doesn't apply to you), so maybe there are some local doctors who would accept your insurance.

I had a friend who took a job as an ER nurse at Kaiser. After a year she quit. She told a group of us, she'd rather go to a first year veterinarian student for health care than go to Kaiser.

Good luck finding a doc you like that accepts your insurance. It can be a long journey. I went through lots of docs before I found one I like (at Conifer Medical of all places). And I adore her... but she's not taking any new patients.

TillerBee, I get this! I joked with my vet years ago that we got better care with his practice. I said I’d rather go there and he joked that I would not fit on the little cots. I saw them and joked back that I am pretty tiny and would fit. We had a great laugh.

Kaiser, not so much anymore. I’ll be 64 later this year, not eligible for Medicare. I hate to be poking around for medical care at my age. Arggh!

I'm happy that I have healthcare coverage. I'm sad that at age 64 I pay $1200 a month for a policy with a $5200 deductible. I'm happy that I can afford this amount for another 6 months. I've been insured through the exchange for the last few years (no, I did not qualify for a tax credit :() I'm absolutely giddy about finally being able to access Medicare and save nearly $1000 monthly on premiums. I start every sentence with "I", don't I?

All that said, I've had no problems with either United Health care or my current insurer, Anthem in claims or in getting an acceptable provider. Just wish they hadn't had a breech of their systems a few years back. I am able to see an excellent PA at Conifer Medical Center currently and previously saw an internal medicine specialist as my PCP, in Evergreen. They have providers accepting new patients. Anthem has been fine for me.

We also have Kaiser, but use it for virtually nothing (although I just found out the Shingrex vaccine is covered as preventitive, so I'll be getting that). I feel your pain. We pay for insurance and go to other doctors because we'll never meet our deductible and other doctors are less expensive and more reliable. That being said, insurance got to be so confusing that we use a broker who can explain everything to us. We like this man, although at the end of the year he gets really busy and it's hard to get in touch with him.

Good luck.

Two more days and I will have Medicare!!! I have a pinched sciatic nerve and have suffered with it for months - my health insurance has a $7900.00 deductible - and I would never have reached that with treatment!

I have an appt with a dr but not until the 17th of Sept. I'm going to urgent care on Sept 1st! Yay - all I want is NO MORE PAIN.

Generally, enrollment is during "open" enrollment -- which is December for January 1st. Unless there is a special event. Check with your broker as to what options you have at this time of year.

:yikes: Caution DL- Urgent care has fees that medicare will not cover regardless of what plan you have. It may cost you over a $1000 depending on varies circumstances. Just walking in the door can cost a couple of hundred. And those administrators lie saying "Medicare should pay for most of it." Wrong!!

If it is urgent then go to the ER.

Also DO NOT go to "medicare only" doctors or facilities (like Iora), under any circumstances. Their standard of care sucks. Really, really terrible, in life treating ways. I learned this the hard way, over and over again. First with my Dad, then my Mom and then myself. Yep I'm a slow learner.

You are better off with doctors that accept all sorts of insurance including medicare. Most of those doctors will tell you ALL of your options, not just medicare approved standard treatment. You'll then have to work with the billing department to determine which options Medicare will pay for which ones you'll have to pay out of pocket.

I'd be dead right now if I only considered medicare approved treatment.

LEARN the system. DO NOT TRUST IT, ASK LOTS AND LOTS OF QUESTIONS! It may save your life.

I have a Medicare Advantage Plan and an ID card that states that Urgent Care visits are $30 - so that is not true? Oh geez - I'd better look into it.

That may be true if it is a medicare urgent care facility. But you don't want to go to ones of those! :yikes: Medicare will not pay for most costs incurred at a Private urgent care facility.
