A $2.7 million California hilltop home built to withstand fire was destroyed Saturday when a brush fire rushed up a steep slope and leaped into the luxury home's attic, where it burned for hours despite thousands of gallons of water poured on by hoses and helicopters.

More than 125 firefighters from eight agencies quickly controlled the 20-acre wildfire that broke out about 4:20 p.m., but they were unable to save the 4,400-square-foot home on Redwood Hill Court.

Pretty scary how fire can travel uphill so quickly. Even scarier that we found a collection of wood to make a fire without a fire ring near our property line on Labor Day. Whoever did it could have endangered any number of people in Burland.
