And how many used borrowed money to take spring break trips to Padre?

I wonder if the consequences of a student loan are made clear to the borrowers? I went to school on a student loan from a bank, went to school half time, worked full time and rented a room out in my house (I attended the college after I was established instead of straight out of HS). But, I had no idea how long it would take to pay off the loan or that it would go forever, immune to chapters 7 or 11.

Once I got the job I studied for, I asked for the payoff balance and it stunned me--I had only taken the loan for the first couple of semesters, then stopped even though the advisors at the school urged me to take on more loan money--and I had been paying the loan since before I graduated. Eventually, I refinanced my house and paid off the loan early with that tax-deductible re-fi. But what I hear now from some young people is what many are saying here--it looks like easy money to fund a lifestyle as well as an education. I doubt they have a clue about the consequences and I doubt anyone stresses those consequences. Student loans appear to me to be a kind of bait.

And, tuition and books are way overpriced IMO
