Nothing like that will be "deleted" but the problem is that it can't be accessed and we simply have no control over that whatsoever.

No one can seriously believe that any of us want that to happen. We are as sick about this as anyone else.

What exactly does that mean? Since i am the one most active in seeking information, I am just trying to wrap my brain around something that just fell on me. You guys have known this for a while so just let the rest of us members process this. Yeah maybe some don't care. fine. some of us do and we have a right to ask these questions and take the answers and sort through it.

I didn't see anything that looked like blame or accusation or that this was being done in a cavalier manner so ...whatever... I am entitled to my feelings.

Jo, I'm sorry this is hurting you so -
too bad they couldn't leave this site as a read only site and start all over with another - but then others would be upset with that - I think it's a damned if you do and damned if you don't situation -
I come from a different perspective - I've lost it all before (those who know me know what I mean by 'all') - but all old correspondence, all old things of memory - everything that my mother ever gave me, etc - so losing posts is not a big deal in my book - it has to happen, and I trust the BOD will do their best to preserve what they can - but it is also things like not being able to get beyond page one on my posts, and the down time we had earlier this year (many times) and the glitches in all the different areas that make this move necessary. And it can't be done with the current volume of posts - they tried and it didn't work - so something's gotta go -
and you know they will try to purge the useless stuff, and if something else gets lost, well, in the scheme of things, I'll still be able to be happy.

Losing SOME of my Posts IS a big deal.

I have had loses in my life, believe me. This isn't life and death.

Just somethings I trusted would be safe. And they aren't.

And I just got told this in no uncertain terms so excuse me if I can't have an oh well...what's gone is gone attitude right this minute to allow everyone else to be more comfortable.

We are sorry this is causing any stress on anyone. Actually we did not know this was coming up. We were thinking it could all be worked out. We came to the conclusion as a team, with advise from our techs yesterday that it would greatly help the situation of updating and moving the site if we could trim the databases down.

Then we decided to start this thread to let the members know what was going on and also to keep you all informed as we move forward in this long process.

We have told you that important threads would not be deleted and we specifically said the Pet Corner would be carefully gone through. Other forums will also be carefully gone through so as to protect the things that mean the most to all of us. Again, NO support threads or threads where someone has had to say goodbye to a pet will be deleted by us.

We are doing our best to keep everyone informed and to be forthright. So far we have only trimmed out old event posts from years ago, old classified ads, many old years from the Study and some years ago in the basement.

Jo, if you are missing 17 post counts they could have possibly been an old classified ad that was not visible anymore. Maybe you had a Study post from 5 years ago? These are the only ones being done now.

Hopefully this explains this process better.

Do what is NEEDED to improve the system. As Spock so aptly opined,
"The needs of the many OUTWEIGH the needs of the few,or of the one."

Suggestion:

Archive everything deemed non-essential past a certain date and charge a nominal research fee for anyone who absolutely has to go back that far and retrieve something. The fee would cover costs for maintaining additional storage capacity and perhaps even provide a small surplus for administration.

My 2 cents.

Of course they will do what is needed. No one suggested that they not go forward.

I guess quoting a fictitious TV character enhances a debate that no one is having.... :?

If you are able to pick and choose, all BWO animals could go, all basement threads (except the voles, if possible).

NO rainbow bridge posts in Robin's thread.

Most, if not all of the Living Room topics up until, I don't know.. 2 years?

How about ALL of the Study threads?

Would you like some help for a few days?

My salary and benefits package demands are negotiable.

---> edit to add, I appreciate this thread for ongoing communication.

Jo - I don't think I have ever been able to see page two, or any other past pages of my posts.

They are available if you go to your profile and use search for all your posts.

I'd like to know the steps those of you are using and coming up with dead ends when using the search feature here. I'm not seeing the problem and can read all my posts from 2004 to present with ease.
