of course, Chinook. This is a voluntary thing.
Here are some thoughts:
If folks trust me, I can keep the information in a spreadsheet. This "database" would be managed by me and I would need a backup in case I get hit by a bus.
Once we get folks on the list, I could make a map that can be updated identifying folks by a number if that works as regards to keeping addresses and names confidential.
Once we have an idea of where the buddy participates live, we can ask for a proximity match based upon how close people live to one another. If person #2 has not checked in via designated method, I can issue a buddy alert to go by and check. If no answer, then they would involve sheriff for wellness check and report back. (kind of like the scanner team in a way)

This can be for injuries (help I've fallen and can't get up), situation with bad people doing bad things, as well as death. Any reason that would cause someone to not check in.

We could ask folks to pair up voluntarily so if someone does not check, the buddy has the address, email and phone to check in. If all is good, we issue an all clear.
Where would we do this? Create a sub forum just for this?

We need to figure out how often folks would check in. Daily? Weekly? and this could change based on changing health conditions.

If there is not enough trust to give this information to me, then suggestions on how to do this would be appreciated.

As far as pets go, names, medical issues, medications, location of medications, veterinarian, family member or friend that could take them. this should help facilitate writing of living wills that designate instructions for pets.

input needed as we discuss

Certainly you're trustworthy. I say move forward if no existing free service is found. I think checking by telephone and referring to the sheriffs office if no response should cover times when the checker was out of town.

thanks. DP.. I am in communication with quite a few folks via PM and email. We will work on some things and present what we come up with. I am sure we'll need to tweak as we go. I do think this process will also help folks get their pets in a will. I see this a huge thing to help folks get organized and have peace of mind when living alone. There would also be peace of mind for family living in other states.

I’m a local caregiver and live in Burland. Would love to be part of this as I see a huge need, what a great idea!

I do not need to be added to the check on list... as I have a husband, but I would love to be put on the buddy list for someone that needs to be checked on. I would also like to be added to a list to take care of pets. I was thinking if someone had a medical emergency, finding someone at the last minute to take care of the pets could be hard.

Please add me to help, too. I really needed this type of thing myself. I lived alone and was at risk for something happening during the night. I was fortunate enough to have someone check on me every morning. We had a code: I was to say something in the shout box here to let her know I was alright. Haha. It worked easily.

Now, I get to return the favor. You already have my email address. If not already, sign me up!

Got it, Lisa. thank you

We only have a small handful of folks so far that have responded that want to engage. I will reach out via email with ideas on how to move forward and would love input as well.

We can start small and grow it as others find out about it.

I'll be in touch.

This is exactly what this forum, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, is all about. Doing things that are easy for us that others need.

Thanks for doing such a great job, Wily!

Guys, my shoulder recovery is not going well and I am in pain and I have to stay still (not my forte). I just had surgery last week.
I am trying to get organized around this, but just haven't had the mindset to do a good job yet.

Please be patient as I do more research this coming week into services that may already be in place that we don't yet know about.
