And that's exactly why the business should not participate. Their responses will be dissected ad nauseam. Hashing it out on a public forum is never a good idea. You can't please all of the people all of the time. Accept that fact and move on.

I don't need to "accept" anything, I didn't have a complaint just expressing my opinion. It makes a difference to me - if it doesn't you, then move on.

I don't think you understood my response. It's not about you. It's about the business. Because it makes a difference to you - or other posters - is the exact reason the business should not participate in an online forum. That difference could be good...or bad. The business is better off not getting involved at all because it never ends well. They're better off putting energy into actually running their business, not wasting time with a he-said she-said bickerfest on pinecam.

I disagree with you mtree - how do you think people are going to find out if a place is good to eat at or not? I always look at other's opinions and realize that some are "planted" and some are just bitter responses but... most are real reviews from real people. Also, I am aware that a person is much more energized and motivated to post a bad review than a good one so a good review is worth much more than a bad review.

I think most people are smart enough to understand reviews like I do, don't you mtree?

Tillerbee, I completely agree that reviews can be very helpful to folks looking to visit a place. My point is that RESTAURANTS should not engage in an online forum other than posting advertising material.

My bold above.
The business DID get involved here and it DID end well. I would hardly call it a "bickerfest" either. The business responded and impressed several OTHER customers here (including me) and the business did get some useful feedback(along with the not so useful) regarding their communication and probably will improve their website soon. I agree that if the not-so-happy customer continues on then they can respond "sorry but we have to agree to disagree" and then put it aside. So far, though, kudos to TwinForks!

We visited for the 5th time this weekend. As there were 4 of us, I had made a reservation; which was just as well as the place was full. It had a great atmosphere and there was quite a "buzz".

The food was superb as usual and the service efficient and friendly, but discreet. (A pet peeve of mine is being constantly interrupted by wait staff). The owner has a wide knowledge of wines and is always helpful with his suggestions.

This is now firmly entrenched at the top of my list of favourite local restaurants.

Interesting, that sort of seems self-defeating to me. My ability to eat or drink would be completely defeated by the rising bile that is inevitably a result of listening to those people speak.
