Cold front associated with an upper level trough just to the north of CO will move south to about the Palmer Divide today. Cooler temps with moist upslope flow will usher in behind front, and set up good chances for showers and thunderstorms this afternoon into tonight from the Palmer Divide north. A slight chance for severe thunderstorms exists over the Plains and Palmer Divide with decent shear profile and brisk winds aloft. Main threat will be hail and strong outflow winds, although a tornado or two is possible. In the foothills, smal hail a definite possibility. Snow level could lower to 8500-9500 ft tonight as well. Models indicate between 0.25 and 0.75 inches of liquid precip possible across most foothill areas today, so good news to lower fire danger.
More tranquil weather on tap for the remainder of the week and into the holiday weekend. Slight chance for isolated showers Thursday with cooler temps, then temps rise beginning Friday and southwest flow aloft increases, so southerly surface winds and lower RH values expected Friday and Saturday. Hopefully we see enough precip today to offset the dry and windy conditions Friday and Saturday. Weak cold front comes through Saturday night but should remain mostly dry, with slightly cooler temps Sunday. Monday looks warm and dry.
