Ron Lewis, owner of Evergreen Memorial Park and the man behind a planned development at Shaffers Crossing, filed for individual Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization on March 21 in the face of $19.2 million in liabilities and $7.8 million in assets.
Chapter 11 bankruptcy is a way for a debtor to reorganize and restructure debts while continuing to operate. It gives a debtor a respite from debt collection while he works out repayment plans with creditors.

Ah... that's a shame... NOT!

My 19 year old daughter is buried on his land. I thought it was a pretty setting in the Mts. she grew up in.

This isn't good news. Lewis still plans on developing the Shaffers property and freeing himself from this debt will only aid that. Meanwhile, the banks (and us the taxpaying consumer) pay for the $11,000,000.

Oh, what a pity.

One thing to remember. If one brick in the wall crumbles, the rest will follow. Elk Creek Properties is next.

I will never understand why Jeffco Commissioners approved his plans in the first place. He never paid property taxes on most of the property he owned anyway. I hope Jeffco voters will remember which two county commissioners voted for his proposal and send them packing.

I seriously doubt that we will ever see any development at Shaffer’s Crossing but it is disturbing to see that someone has apparently drained the fishing ponds at Shaffer’s Crossing.

Which fishing ponds? The ones you see from the road are still there.

Well then the drought is more serious than I thought. Looks like they have been drained to me.

I agree. Do you know which two commissioners so we can get the word out?

Jeffco Commissioners John Odom and Donald Rosier voted in favor of the development. Commissioner Faye Griffin opposed it.
