Front Range Foothills / Denver Metro Weather Briefing – 13 April 2012 – 0700 hrs MDT
Synopsis: Sunny today with high temps near 60’s, RH in the teens and the winds generally light.
For the Front Range Mountains and westward, winter storm this weekend with about 1 to 2 for the higher elevations and near the Divide – less snow for the Foothills with less than 6 inches possible.
Watches & Warnings:
None at this time in the metro. For the Front Range above 9000 feet, there is a Winter Storm Watch in effect Saturday evening through Sunday afternoon.
Hazardous Weather Outlook for Today: A weak high pressure area moving over the state today will cause mostly sunny skies and dry conditions across the region through early afternoon. Clouds will begin increasing this afternoon ahead of a spring storm system that is expected to impact Colorado weather over the weekend. A few snow showers or thunderstorms may develop over the mountains late this afternoon. Otherwise, temperatures will be in the lower and mid 60s across the plains with 40s and lower 50s in the mountains.
For Saturday through Thursday: Snow will become widespread over the mountains later Saturday and continue into Sunday evening. Periods of moderate to heavy snow are possible with accumulations of 10 to 18 inches. This same storm will bring snow to the foothills and Palmer Ridge, a rain-snow mix to the western plains, and rain to the eastern border areas. The storm will move out by Sunday night. There will be a chance of snow in the mountains Monday into Tuesday evening with northwesterly flow aloft. The mountains will be dry Wednesday and Thursday. The plains will be dry Monday through Thursday. Temperatures will be below seasonal normals Saturday through Monday. They will warm to above normals form Tuesday through Thursday.
Front Range Foothills Forecast
Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 58. Southwest wind between 6 and 9 mph.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. West southwest wind between 5 and 7 mph.
Saturday: A slight chance of rain and snow before noon, then a chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 46. West southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming north. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Saturday Night: Rain and snow likely, becoming all snow after 10pm. Cloudy, with a low around 27. Northwest wind between 8 and 11 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Sunday: Snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 38. North northwest wind between 5 and 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
West Denver Metro Forecast
Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 62. Southwest wind between 7 and 9 mph.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. West southwest wind between 5 and 9 mph.
Saturday: A 20 percent chance of rain after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 56. Breezy, with a southwest wind 6 to 15 mph becoming north. Winds could gust as high as 24 mph.
Saturday Night: Rain likely before 10pm, then rain and snow likely between 10pm and 2am, then snow likely after 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 32. Breezy, with a northwest wind between 8 and 16 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.
Sunday: Snow likely before 9am, then rain and snow likely. Cloudy, with a high near 42. North northwest wind between 7 and 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%.
