Now THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' 'BOUT!!!!!
Look at all these great ideas! (You see? I told ya so! Your replies and PMs have been so precious & caring- THANK YOU! (Gets me all vklempt!) hippiechick- thanks for the clue for the magnifying tool. I tried it... well, I needed some dramamine after about 10 minutes! (Definitely something to get used to girl-living-life- wow! What a very good idea about the price negotiations! (Who knew?) Now if I could just get the theme song for the "Price Line Negotiator" and fear of William Shatner appearing, out of my head. Dear, dear Mo'~ ya crazy Ol Coot! ![]() Gettin' old ain't fer sissies, is it? Feeling helpless can make you grumpy, fer shur. And scared. A friend took me to Alco on Tuesday. I was checking out a product & she kept going, saying she'd be in the food section. Ok, this was my first time in the store & I had no idea where that was. I was looking down aisles as I searched for the food section. I saw a short lady 1/2 way down an aisle, wasn't my friend, kept walking. But WAIT! Was that a lil ol lady with a walker trying to handle a jumbo 6 pack of paper towels & several other items??? I went back & sho' nuff- it was. I offered to put her stuff up at the checkout for her & she gratefully agreed. I then headed back to where I was before. I called my friend's name out a few times- no answer. I knew she hadn't left me & I could have her paged, yadayadayada- but the terror that hit me made me cry like a lil girl! (She had no idea how bad by eyesight had gotten.) It's vewy scawy. But you've been grumpy for a long time too... ![]() I will be very busy checking these leads- thank you again, peeps! I love this community! ![]() I am so blessed!

Dear everyone!
Well, thanks to your sage wisdom & suggestions, I think I'm on the right track! (Serenity- you be sure to thank your FB friend!!!) I called Friends of Man- (apparently not gender specific!) and found out the process. Then I called the Park Co Public Health office & chatted with a buddy there. She was very familiar with FOM and has worked with them before with good results. She graciously offered to help with the paperwork & to make a few calls too. I called Dr. Whalen's office and am waiting for a return call re: costs. I know that they require a preliminary visit but I did not make an appointment yet. (Being a pedestrian, one must rely on the ride availability.) BUT- I feel I'm on the right path now! ![]() Thank you all again for your suggestions and especially your concern. It means the world to me!

Lo-Bay Lady, I think the Lions Club here in Bailey may even be able to help you. I know the Lions, Masons, and Knights have programs for people who can't afford these things.
Bailey has a club. http://www.colions.org/rmleifindex.html _________________ ..."No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted"... Aesop |

I think if you contact the local Lions club they can help you Lo-bay Lady. I hope so anyway.

We share a common issue; vision loss. Ain't our ability to see just about the most precious gift we had been given. Of all the resources in response to your post one gives me some hope. It's called "Ensight."
My impairment is the damage to the visual cortex in my brain and I've been working my donkey off to create alternative places in my brain in order to compensate for the damage. Following advice from my last speech Therapist, yes speech, I had made a lot of progress, but still not enough. Ensight approaches my problem through occupational therapy, which might further help me.. Sadly, my health insurance would not cover Ensight. I"M far from willing to give up! Your situation angers me more than my own. It is relatively easy to remedy. If only you had money or insurance that would cover the simple preparative surgery. Don't dismiss the idea of fund raising. You have tried to make your mark by actually serving others. You have "paid it forward" and if I had the resources it would be my personal pleasure to assist you. Keep searching for solutions and please allow others to "see" what you come up with. Thanks. _________________ Kyrie, eleison |

As I mentioned in my 1st post, I am on the Lion's Club List. (They're great!) ![]() WO~ If you gleaned some "insight" about resources like Ensite- (and you're not one to give up!) well, mazel tov, my friend! ![]() I am delighted that these replies may/are helping others too! Actually, I am "focusing" on the one resource serenity's friend suggested. I've started the necessary wheels in motion. I finally spoke with the Dr.s assistant today! ![]() (Lovely lady!) She needs to speak with the surgeon, who will back in the office on Tues. (We'd been playing telephone tag since Monday.) I'm excited! and blessed! Note: there are people that don't really grasp the situation "Cataracts? Just get them removed- easy process." "Yes, "easy" if you have insurance. I'm grateful it's a fixable situation. " I reply. "No problem- just get the surgery." they say. With all due respect, what color is the sky on your planet? Walter Ouzel wrote: Your situation angers me more than my own. You know, I really never thought of "paying it forward". I suppose it is, but never the intent for why I do stuff. I serve for totally selfish reasons- it brings me joy & feeds my soul! Re: a fundraiser, I feel kinda hinkey about that. I suppose since I spend an inordinate amount of time hittin' up my community for various fundraisers- it's just weird. I guess i just need to put on my Big Girl panties and get over it! Like I told the Dr.s assistant today- I'm used to BEING a caregiver, not NEEDING one! Oh well, I suppose a life lesson here, huh? Well folks, after this lengthy post, !I'm spent I miss posting in the LR, miss the Birthday greetings ALOT, (and happy BD to everyone the last 2+ weeks.) but my eye energy is very limited. (I know, I'm whining!) Thanks again y'all! _________________ RAK ON! ![]() |

I can donate my chauffeur's skill & drive you to and from your surgery appointments - if I don't get a job first...That can be my contribution.
