Back from training and all of a sudden wind puffs???
Looks like you already got some good info,
But your doing the right thing cold water hosing,,,,
You might try some poultice wraps for a few days, 12 hrs on 12 off,
Support wraps for any work,
Horse shouldn't be lame from just wind puffs, I'd look further into it.
If you do the research you'll find its had to much strain put on the
Legs without being ready for it, or severe work without proper support.
Hope your horse gets better!

Slow and steady when conditioning. Number one rule at the track, and applies to all equine activity, I would think.

I am starting wraps today and if not improved by Monday we are going to the vet. My horse is 8 yr old maybe that has something to do with it too and just being started.

No problem to start a horse at 8 yrs. Prime of their life, really. Its not ideal from a behavioral standpoint but that's not old for legs and endurance. I got my horse as a barely broken 8-yr old and she did great but I trained her myself and I am very conservative about conditioning. I agree with the other post that suggested that wind puffs are usually mostly cosmetic and rarely cause lameness. Good Luck! rSR

Yep. All participants in precision riding drills are drilled on conditioning as well as cool-down and stall rest. Nothing replaces practical knowledge and real-time experience; a visit to the JeffCo Fairgrounds on any Saturday will give participant as well as casual horse lover a true kindredship of what it takes for a horse to be a pasture ornament all week, then 2-6 drill practices crammed into a Saturday gathering.

Good Luck!

I have been using pressure wraps with liniment the last two day seems better. She defiantly needs more down time.
