Troop Support Action Committee (TSAC) announces the shipment of goodies pictured below to troop units in Afghanistan this morning, September 13.

Please take this as a big Thank You for all of you generous folks in our mountain community who have been making the mission happen!

All of you who have stopped to chat with us at the displays at King Soopers, Safeway, and both VFW Post breakfasts - YOU deserve the gratitude of the Troops!

We will be "Showing the Flag" at King Soopers and collecting more items for the troops on Saturday, 15 September, from 10am to 2pm.
Please stop by to chat with us!

RailBuf and I got 20 boxes to the Bailey Post Office this morning and off to the TWO units we are currently supporting!
That's right! I said TWO!
We collected a new Army unit in Afghanistan by way of our presentation at VFW Post 8661 Famous Breakfast!
This is timely as our Recon Marine unit just got notice that they are due to ride the Freedom Bird sometime in November! (GREAT NEWS by itself!)
Here is what we sent:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/beergodrox/7983312820/" title="3850r TSAC Mailing 091312 by mqcq777, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8181/7983312820_17774323d4_b.jpg" width="864" height="648" alt="3850r TSAC Mailing 091312"></a>
That is 210 pounds at a cost of about $1.26/pound.
Thank you for the cash you donated at our collection events which goes to pay the postage!

The 10 boxes on the left are going to the Marines and should get there well before they rotate home.
The 10 on the right are headed to our newly adopted Army unit.
Even the four brown boxes going by Space Available Mail should get there in two to five weeks.
I hope to soon have more information that I can release on the Army unit.

TSAC is a "small charity" under IRS 501(c)(3) and donations are tax deductible.
Checks should be payable to: TSAC and mailed to: TSAC, P.O. Box 1033, Bailey, CO 80421-1033
Or - you can see us at King Soopers and drop spare change and/or snack and hygiene items in our collection box.
Come and look at some of the photos of troops we have supported over the last six years.
They are grateful for what you have given and it truly helps their morale!

Here is a photo of the TSAC collection at King Soopers on that Saturday, September 15.
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/beergodrox/7989683027/" title="IMG_3856 by mqcq777, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8445/7989683027_4faf4d6d67.jpg" width="500" height="375" alt="IMG_3856"></a>

This is how TSAC gets the goodies that go in the packages that are shipped to Troops currently in Afghanistan.
It is because of generous donations like this from our mountain community that we can bring smiles to our brave troops.

The shipment pictured in the first post here went into the U.S. Mail last Thursday, September 13th.
I got this email from our contact in an Army Engineer Battalion on Wednesday, September 19:

I got the first 6 boxes thank you very much for those. Everyone who opened those liked what was inside and said these were some of the better care packages sent to us. :)

I wrote back and asked for information on how many Troops were in the unit so we could figure out how much stuff to send.
I also wanted to know if they had a microwave to cook popcorn and if they needed any toiletries.
Here is the answer:

Yeah some of the guys have a microwave and most of us have the small trailer sized fridges. We have roughly 100 people (2 female). We don't really need the toiletries as far as I know. Most the guys here are looking for snacks and things to keep them busy when not on mission (movies, Xbox, board games, music). There are probably like 10-15 body builder type guys that love the protein bars and such like that. If I can think of anything else I'll let you know. And I'll also let you know when I get those last four boxes. Thanks so much for your prayers and the support your giving us!!!

I am keeping the unit and our contact confidential for security reasons.
Just so you know how dangerous being in Afghanistan really is - this particular unit goes out and finds IEDs before they can blow up our Soldiers on patrols.

Thank you for helping us make this happen.
You can see the TSAC donation box in the photo here.
It "lives" in front of the door to King Soopers and there is another like it at the north door (the 24 hour open door) at Safeway.

Please feel free to drop items in these boxes.
TSAC will make sure that the goodies get to our Troops!

Thank You!
