Does anyone know where there are established corrals where you can go camp with your horses? Ideally, it would be somewhere where I don't have to negotiate huge hills or passes (from Conifer) because my horsetrailer is quite heavy. Trailer does ok from Golden to Conifer but the one time I took it over a pass.....quite scary. 8O

you can get that electric fence that looks like a white band of clothe. You know what i mean?, and a solar charging system , then you can just create a corral out of like 10 big pine trees. plenty of national forest around. train your horses to a setup like that and you could go anywhere.

you can run a electric fence off your truck

Guanella pass road, about 2 miles past burning bear campground, take the first left dirt road. There are some corrals but they get taken quickly, so you may have to hi line.

Indian Creek has corrals and designated equestrian camping area.

Thanks everyone for the great ideas! I'm going to check out a couple of these places this weekend. Have never done the horse camping thing but am excited to try.

If your going up high and plan to give the horses a good ride bring blankets. It gets cold up there and their muscles will do much better kept warm after a workout. They will thank you for it.

Yes-I remember hearing this good advice about blankets from my endurance rider friends whose horses have to spend the night tied to trailers after 50 miles.

I did make a trip up Guanella yesterday to check it out. It looks like a great spot but there was sooo much traffic because the aspens are turned! Road is pretty washboardy too. Also, you could see and hear people shooting guns so I'm thinking that would be a great trip to make maybe late spring next year, when there are no crowds.

Indian Creek closes after Labor Day, but Jacks Gulch Campground north of Ft. Collins is a wonderful spot to horsecamp with very good established corrals and great places to ride. It's a drive, but worth every mile.
