You should have no problem driving a 2WD car to the Missouri Gulch TH. It is just a dirt road with the usual bumps.

Easy dirt road. No problema.
Long day. Lots of elevation gain. As I recall, the trek BACK over Belford was not so welcome. Do not attempt a shortcut and go off trail to escape down the saddle between the two peaks. I watched some other hikers do this years ago. My guess is they didn't get back to their cars until nightfall. Be prepared and start early. Technically easy. But it's a big time test of your endurance conditioning. Have fun! |

Agree with the other comments, especially about staying on the defined trail. The road to Missouri Gulch TH is no problem for 2WD cars and the parking lot has plenty of room. If you are doing Belford, then Oxford expect a long day, so get an early start. I did not do Oxford but I imagine the return route is pretty demanding.
I thought Belford was quite steep above 12,500 and slow going. Of course, the views up there are quite captivating, looking south to the Collegiates and north toward Elbert, etc. Enjoy. |
