I have a cabin at Elevenmile and want to mow the wild grass. I know you cant use a chain saw right now but what about a lawn mower? Ill have a fire extinguisher handy.

FYI, what a completely wild crazy heart breaking week, its been a real comfort to have this site to get information from.

It's understanding that you can use a chainsaw, mower, etc... as long as they have a USFS approved spark arrestor installed correctly, and you have a fire extinguisher nearby.

It's probably OK but to be sure ask the Lake George Fire Department at 719-748-3022, they cover the 11 Mile area.

I for one would be nervous about using a lawn mower right now to mow any kind of wild area. I know, back in my lawn mowing days (long time ago), I would occasionally strike a spark when mowing an overgrown area that happened to have rocks in it. I think I'd be more comfortable using a weed-whacker with a plastic cord than a lawn mower with a metal blade. But that's just me.

Yep, it might be legal, but I'd look to rent a goat for mowing...

UPDATE: I happened to meet the Chief of LG Fire and asked him. Answer is an emphatic "NO". Reason is the blades can pick up minor amounts of gravel that cause sparks.
NO LAWNMOWING

so again the fire chief says no and Law Enforcement says it's allowed as per the Stage II fire ban, gas lawnmowers are exempt....

It is almost maddening. We would like everyone to get on the same page but that page is flammable.....

We all should keep our Grass as low as we can.The fire out East the other day traveled very fast on the high grass,Usually the Grass is the first to ignite. I keep a Fire Extinguisher on my Mower right next to me. If are aware of what is going on we could reduce the risk. That being said it is truly amazing how many properties have high grass.
