However, I would disagree that "we are at the top of the food chain," unless we happen to be armed at all times. Fanny was right to be scared!

Mountains lions aren't after us out there. We aren't on the menu. I have encountered 5 mountain lions in my lifetime so far and all of them wanted nothing to do with me and went in the opposite direction. Some people make them out to be these horrible animals as if they were made by the hands of lucifer. It's really terrible and sad to read all the mountain lion bashing threads on Pinecam. We are at the top of the food chain. We are killing more of them than they are of us. I feel terrible for anyone who loses a pet to any wildlife animal whether it be a coyote, fox, bear, elk, wolf, etc. but our domesticated animals become part of the food chain when outdoors. Nothing will ever change that. But what is obviously changing is our impact on nature and our attitudes towards nature helps to develop what the future will look like here on earth.

I don't think I'm overreacting at all, mountain lions used to be something you only saw very occasionally, and way out in the woods, now people see them every where around here. They are not some endangered creature on the ESA list. What they need is a butt full of rocksalt to teach them to stay away from human habitation. By the way I love big cats but they need to stay away.

Perhaps we may be seeing them more because there are more of us today than there were of yesterday. Mountains lions do stay away from us as much as they can. I know it's even hard for me to find a place where there are no people for a little solitude at times so you have to think it would be hard for the wildlife and you can't expect to tell them where they should call home.

Excuse me, but you have a problem with mountain lions?? Really? That's as bad as hearing "the deer are eating my flowers, boo hoo." Umm if it's a problem, seriously move back to the city!!

Previous poster, that is really not the answer. No one here is blaming the lion or bemoaning what happens when we live up here --- just a member saying what happened to her own animal. Seriously, why does this become the approach whenever anyone makes a statement that talks about the risks of being here? Go back to the city ---- COME ON! Have a heart, please.
