I am so happy to see the conversation continue about the importance of the election and who is on the board. Regardless of who wins, I hope that you all will continue to support Elk Creek Fire by having fundraisers and attending meetings. The public is always welcome at board meetings, in fact there is one on Thursday. They are usually the 2nd Thursday of the month at Station 1 and usually there are less than 20 people in attendance, more fire fighters than community members. This is the place to find out the facts.

I wear pants, I never get accused of shacking up with granny.

I do think tiller bee sounds cute though.

( ps) these comments are as meaningful as most of the comments on here.

The one that really got me is "the board is professional now" Have they even had a meeting since Bartlett resigned?

And what makes the "professional?" The old board ran on a platform of be nice, do your job, act like adults... and they are all gone. So what does that mean. The professionals are professional at not working, at being mean and acting like children?

Where does one got to school to become a professional board member? Where ever it was, I think it is abundantly clear that ethics were not a required course.

Good chance that some of the supporters for the other two candidates are relatives too...

Elk Creek has had problems in the past. Names like Dolan and Biglen have been in the paper time and time again, but these people are no longer with the department. Elk Creek has worked hard to get its house in order. Today, they have good people, a new chief, a supportive board, and what they are doing is working. Look at the leadership roll Elk Creek played in the recent disaster. Agencies across the state (and beyond) are looking to Elk Creek for advice.

Things are finally on the right track. Why mess it up now? Why change a winning team. I believe we should let the board continue with the good work they have undertaken. Elk Creek hasn’t been this strong in recent history. Do we really want to risk throwing all that away?

As a wise person once said, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” And for once in recent memory Elk Creek isn’t broken.

 Sounds like we should have a celebration! That awards should be given that all should be honored! Who could have ever guessed that such amazing feats were possible! That the HTT would be the trend setter for all things good and evil; that having a Board president that has admitted to stealing documents from the department and faxing them to other entities from his homes would be viewed as honorable; that a BOD that is "dating"? the old district administrator ( the one who hid IRS statements in a drawer costing the district thousands and thousands of dollars) would think this is ok; That this same BOD would send a message to the general membership that hazing actives are OK, is not broken. That losing member after member after member is "moving in the right direction".

Hazing, degrading, name calling, stealing, defacing, disrespecting, devaluing, segregating, discriminating, or just plain being mean is NEVER professional, and certainly should never be viewed as "not broken"

( these comments can be supported through BOD minutes, recordings, rosters and other documents available to the public through public records requests.)

Regardless, get out and vote today. Vote for diversity. Vote because it is your constitutional right. Vote to keep a check and balance. For whatever reason, Vote!

everyone
unfortunately, those who think it's directed to are probably not the ones being unprofessional, those that need the advise have no clue how they come across.
and it's directed to me as well - I've wanted so badly to respond to some of the very stupid comments, but I remind myself to 'remain professional' and not say what i really want to - If it would do some good - that's different, but since it would only inflame, then no.

Congratulations to Greg Branch and Alec Schwartz, the two men elected to the Elk Creek Fire Board today. I wish them well.
