We also recently had our homeowners policy non-renewed. A friend referred us to Crow Hill Insurance and they set us up with a great policy with Travelers. We found Crow Hill really easy to work with.

Thank you for the referral Cheryl. I am glad to help if I can!

Insurance carriers have been more and more picky especially of homes in fire areas. One of the things I love most about being an independent agent is having the flexibility to work with several great companies to find the best fit for my clients.

I made numerous phone calls trying to get quotes and finally called;

Colorado Insurance
7901 Southpark Plaza, Suite 208
Littleton, CO 80120

720-283-1722

They will take your information ONCE and then get quotes from all of the companies (Allstate, State Farm, Farmers, Travelers, etc., etc....). ONE call means much less hassle.

I couldn't be more pleased than I have been. I had Farmers for years. Service was satisfactory - until I found that I was paying substantially higher rates than other companies were offering (very frustrating after being a loyal customer for years). In my opinion, steer clear of State Farm. I have heard way too many horror stories about them.

I am currently with Traveler's and have been very pleased. Either way, Colorado Insurance will review your policy every year (if you'd like) just to make sure that you continue to get the best rate possible.

Willis insurance brokerage is also good. They are an independent as well. I would stay away from direct writers ie State Farm, Farmers, Allstate. Independents shop lot's of companies. I had Travelers (they are a great company and used to work for them), but when I got my renewal, unfortunately they had taken quite a hike in rates. I'm now with Safeco. Most all will eventually increase their premiums due to the losses back east. Good luck.

If you qualify, USAA is terrific. Must be a veteran, spouse of, child of, grandchild of a veteran. Any one of those. There may be more relationships but I'm not going there.

Some really good information in this topic - I may be looking to see if I can get something better priced.

Thanks especially 2wlady - I've seen you post about the insurance for veterans before, I think we need to look in to it for sure.

Would you happen to have a phone number or website for them?

If you have served in the Armed Forces or one of your parent's have served you can get USAA insurance. They have saved Thousands of dollars on our auto insurance, property insurance, and replacement for valuables insurance. They also have a checking and savings plan that is awesome. We have 2 vehicles with full coverage and it is the cheapest we have ever found. They have a wonderful claims department that takes care of you, they have agents available here for claims too. I would check with them if you can and see the savings they give you.

Might want to check on their MOUNTAIN home insurance.....it is my understanding they do NOT insure (in general) up on the mountain....FIRE
RISK is too elevated. (that was related to us when we attempted to bundle
our insurance together.....we went back to State Farm.....only because we
have had the SAME AGENT for 23 years or more and he will go to the mat
for us when it comes to claims.) We are SO-0-0 s--- out of luck, IF he decides to retire. 8O

Last year I switched to Amica for cars and home. Saved some $$. Had Farmers Insurance for 35 years before that. Recently my old Farmers agent called to try to get my car business back, but he said they no longer are insuring homes up here in Pine Junction. Now I'm even happier I made the switch to Amica when I did.

Just a heads up that USAA is the one the dumped us this year. Their reason was that there are "clumps of trees within 30 feet of dwelling" which is true but odd. The prior owners did a great job of clearing all brush and grass around the house, so it wasn't just an issue of fire mediation.
