I have been following an ad on craigslist regarding a horse at 14th and Lakewood that has been tied to a tree since last saturday in a field. Many people have driven by and have not seen water or food. One day this week he broke lose and was walking down the road but the next day he was tied up again. I have contacted Lakewood Animal Control, Colorado Horse Rescue and Colorado Horse Protection League. The horse is still there. No one knows who the owner is and I'm assuming that nothing can be done unless the owner surrenders. Any suggestions would be helpful......

Maybe one of the news outlets would be interested in this situation and could bring it to the publics' attention along with the proper authorities.

It might not be what you think. Let animal control look into it.

I used to have a horse that I tied to a tree every day on a long rope and she grazed in an apple orchard all day on the end of that rope. We didn't have that area fenced, hence the rope. I don't recall putting out water for her in that field either. I brought her in every evening to her corral with water, shelter and feed.

It might not be the same situation. I'm just sayin' look closely. Is the horse being tethered all night too? Is it in bad shape?

Thanks sisteret for looking out for the horse. Hopefully, it's not a bad situation and some good reason as what trednwtr said. It really sounds like you did everything you can, please keep us updated. You can always call back these places to determine what the status is and ask them how you can help. Just some ideas on what more you can do.

Can you share the link in craiglist for the horse?

What is the exact location of the horse? If several people call on this animal control might do something.

I just checked the Craigslist postings. The horse is located at 14th and Allison and as of today 2 people say the horse is no longer there. I sure hope it is in a good place.

That sounds like my horse's version of the Afterlife.

it seems like the horse has been removed. Being tied to a tree for a week even if it was temporary is not ok. I know a lot of people kept calling animal control so hopefully they did their job. Will still check for a while and make sure he doesn't show back up. Thank you for all your suggestions!!!

This could very well not be a case of abuse and the horse is no longer there.
