The cubs are getting more active each day and "playtime" is in full force. Take a break for 2 minutes to check out the "rough & tumble" play.
 We're in for some good videos if this keeps up - just wish they were in color.

While mama was out yesterday the cubs had some fun! Welcome to the WWE - cubbie style!

Oh boy!
 Jewel doesn't mess around when she thinks there may be danger near her cubs.
Something startled Jewel .. a sound, a smell .. don't know, but she chased the cubs back inside the den with a ROAR then turned to investigate while the cubs complained loudly. Turns out all was fine and Jewel soon settled down once back inside to a safe place. Per the Daily Update from April 10: We think detecting a bear was the most likely cause of Jewel reacting so strongly when she and the cubs hustled into their den. Some bears are on the move now. We got a call today from someone who found the biggest bear scat he had ever seen on a road less than a mile from Jewel’s den—evidently a big male on the move. Jewel and her cubs spend a good deal of time outside today, climbing trees, playing, romping around...getting ready to leave the den and enter the real world!

(As an aside, BBC is currently in Ely, MN filming a documentary about Dr. Rogers and his bear studies. It will be on the air sometime in May.
