checked on his status today

he is still there. Microchipped, not registered but did trace to a breeder. They came up with a possible name, address and phone. Phone disconnected, Aurora address - shelter mailed a postcard to that address. No response yet.

Someone please enlighten me. How does it happen that an animal is micro chipped and not registered? When I got my dog chipped, Big Horn vet handed me a form I filled out and they registered him. Last week when we got a dog from the pound, they chipped him and handed us the plastic tag w/ the ID number on it. I checked, and he had been registered. So....

When you initially chip a dog you register but if you move or the dog changes owners those changes need to be sent into the microchip registry. Apparently somebody didn't do that.

that is what it sounds like to me, the dog was chipped by the breeder, but sounds like the information was not updated by new owner. That could be for a lot of reasons, including not even knowing the dog was chipped. who knows, but hopefully, his owners will be found soon

If you move, it's easy to forget that you need to notify the Chip Registry. Then after somebody moves, the USPS will not forward forever, just less than a year.
