"We don't hide. We're out there in the open. One hundred percent of our citations in the past two years have been for 15 or more over the speed limit," Sandoval said."

The vast majority of citations in January 2012, 492 in total, were issued to drivers traveling 15 to 19 mph over the speed limit, a $135 penalty.

Also last month, 94 citations of $195 were issued to drivers who were traveling 20-24 miles per hour over the limit and 14 citations of $265 went to drivers traveling 25 or more miles per hour over the limit

This tells me that I can easily go 10 over and not worry about being ticketed

Noticed patrols on both sides of 285 in the canyon today by Morrison but considering the number of recent accidents in the canyon... well have to say it is a good thing they are out there.

What's wrong with driving 45?

It's an exceptionally low speed limit when compared to similar stretches of road.

"We don't hide. We're out there in the open."

Meadow muffins....they hide on private property, behind bushes, cement walls and around blind corners.

In the summer, they'll hide a vehicle behind the trees on Hwy 74 and stand outside the vehicle with their radar gun in hand.

Noooooo....... they don't hide. :thud:

Whether the cops hide or not is not the issue, the issue is whether a driver is exceeding a generally recognized safe speed and endangering the public.
I welcome the sight of a cop and radar gun wherever they are. I don't welcome the sight of a vehicle speeding like a maniac down a curved mountain road barely in control. It leaves virtually no margin for the unexpected: animal or rock in road, disabled vehicle etc.

Aw, c'mon, traveling at 45 mph for a few short minutes isn't the end of the world.
As for speeds on Highway 74 through Kittredge. There's a busy cafe which is right ON the roadside, a children's playground and two small animal vets, again right alongside the highway - pups do escape their owners at times.
Take those few little minutes and observe the limits, folks.

Yes, driving beyond the situation is unacceptable.

>>>>a generally recognized safe speed

If only that was true. 45 mph uphill on a major Hwy285 in good weather is a speed trap plain and simple. Notice how you never see them there in bad weather?? They are enforcing for revenue, not safety.

Have you noticed with the current government financial problems, how much traffic enforcement has been stepped up in genera?. We have too many cops for the current government revenue, so they are having to earn their keep. If they have that much time to sit around rather than out fighting crime, we need less police.

Getting harder and harder to respect our government.

Too many people are showing this attitude by refusing to observe mutually needed safety laws such as speed limits, observing stop signs/stop lights or lane usage.
The lack of cops on a bad weather day is because they're tied up investigating the worst accidents.
