Maybe it seems silly-it's a rodent...but it broke my heart.

About an hour ago, I went to give my pigs (guinea) their midnight romaine. Toupee', my longhair, was dead. I'd seen no prior symptoms, other than she'd been sleeping more, and more deeply in the past few weeks.

I'd gotten her from a shelter, so I'm not sure how old she was. I know they have a short longevity, but the fact that she'd been cuddled this morning, fell asleep on my chest, but still had an appetite and was active...my heart is broken.

The stupid thing is-I'll get another. The roomate is fat and sassy (if you'd seen her picture in the "is she pregnant" thread, you'd see). Pigs are very social, and regardless of how much attention you give them, they should be with one of their own. The result of which, the older passes away first, continuing the cycle.

Anyway, thanks for the outlet. It'll be a long night.

Rose

I'm sorry to hear about your broken heart. :( My heart has also been broken by those adorable pigs and I know how much it can hurt. Toupee' is a wonderful name for a longhair guinea pig. When I was a little girl, I had a guinea pig named Curly Wig and I just adored her. On and off over the years I have shared my life with a few other squeaky, furry, lovable little guinea pigs and they have all left little footprints in my heart. My thoughts and prayers are with you Rose.

I'm so sorry your lost your piggy, Rose. I loved my piggies too, when I had them. Take comfort in knowing you loved her well until her time with you ended.

On a happier note-

I went to the dumb friends league to get a friend for my pig; the kids and I couldn't decide between two-so, you guessed it-we got both. :woot:

Jeff and I said a fond and final good bye to little Danushka this morning. This past week her decline had accelerated, tiny as she was, she had gotten thinner and it was just so painful to see. Dr. David and Allison at the Bailey Pet Clinic were more then kind and caring.
I'm extremely grateful that I had these past two months with her. Making this decision was such a gift over not knowing what became of her when she went missing in June and I got her back after 16 arduous days. I know she is no longer ailing and I know I did her a last kindness by allowing her to leave. I'm more relieved then sad.
She is buried on the hill above the house next to Smokey. I dropped one of my orchid flowers into her grave. She did so like to eat them, much to my dismay.
You are free now, Madame, The Great Danushka. Thank you for your 16 years of companionship. I did try my best to honor the trust you placed on me. You will be missed by Jeff and Jo.

Oh sweetheart, I'm sorry and happy at the same time.
So happy you got her back again and could show her how much you cared, so sorry you had to intervene, happy again that you could.
Rest easy, you were the very best friend ever, and a true sister to her. Love from Doug, Kathy, Rose & Amber Hansen
