45th Infantry Brigade Wish List

Here's a list of the items Thomas has said the troops would like to see. I've also added items that were welcomed when many of us were in Vietnam and other theaters of conflict.

Thomas' List

Lip Balm
Soap
Shaving Cream
Hand Wipes
Cough Drops
Tooth Paste
Baked Goods (carefully packaged)

Additional Recommended and Useful Items:

Toiletries

Disposable razors
Combs/Brushes
Talcum Powder
Cotton Swabs
Hand Towels
Deodorant
Mouthwash
Hand Lotion
Sun Tan Lotion
Styptic Sticks
Shampoo
Travel-Size Packages of Tissue
Good-Quality Toilet Paper
Dental Floss
Toothpicks
Nail Clippers
Murine (eye drops)

Sweets and Snacks

Chewing Gum
Packaged Snacks (chips/popcorn/peanuts, etc.)
Candy Bars
Energy Bars
Hard Candy
Twinkies or similarly packaged confections
Dried Fruits (packaged)
Powdered Drink Products

Comfort Items

Slippers (flip-flops)
Baseball Caps (adjustable band)
Hankies
Socks
Sweatshirts (uni-sized)
Disposable Lighters
Shower Caps
ZipLock Bags (of all sizes)
Paperback Novels (in good condition)
Pre-paid Phone Cards (any denomination)
Sunglass holders
Boxer shorts ( boys and girls)
Disposable cameras
Tiny pillows
Toe socks
VHS Tapes (original productions and no X-rated material)
DVDs
Sporting goods

Tips/Suggestions

When you prepare a box or bag for drop-off, you should identify the item with your screen name. Although the soldiers will know it came from Pinecam, your screen name on the item may trigger a correspondence with this soldier ? and after all, that?s one of our main goals and is one of their main desires.

For the moment, a collection box will be placed at Sweet Fanny Adams to accept your gifts to the troops. As Cosmiccowboy55 establishes other drop-off locations, he will let us know.

Try to contribute products that are individually wrapped to assist Thomas in the distribution of the items.

You might consider creating variety packs containing a number of items a typical individual might use. And if you wish to establish contact with some of these folks, don?t forget to place a note or a card stating your screen name.

Stay away from perishables that won?t survive the journey and only serve as a nasty surprise once Thomas opens the box.

Please feel free to send me additional suggestions and I will add them to the list.

All cash donations to help defray the cost of postage would be greatly appreciated and should by directed to PCG.

Pinecammers are a generous lot. Let?s show them how it?s done! :patriot:

Here is a copy of the flyer we will be using on our collection boxes around the area. In the next few days, I will post a list
of locations where Cos and Kathi have arranged for the boxes to reside. Also, as Zeroe has suggested, we will post a
pick-up schedule so you can time your deliveries accordingly.

I asked my daughter in the service for suggestions for items women soldiers might long for. She has never been in combat, but has lived rough in the field, so I thought she might have some perspective. She immedicately came up with, of course, feminine hygiene products, then after some thought, added "phone cards. Everybody will use phone cards, any number of minutes will be appreciated." :patriot:

BTW, she applauded our effort, calling it "Operation Care Package" and predicted it will be a huge success at making just a little difference in these soldiers' daily existence.

I'll add the phone cards to the recommended list. Thanks, crow.

For those of you who wish to contribute money to defray the cost of postage to Afghanistan, here is the address:

Please make checks payable to:

Wayne Harrison
PO Box 825
Pine, CO 80470

Since this is a general address for Pinecam, please indicate in the Memo field of the check how you desire the funds be used, i.e.;

Troops
General expenses
Other (please specify)

As always, your generosity is so appreciated.

The First Shipment is in the Mail!

Our first shipment, consisting of three boxes packed with goodies for the troops in Afghanistan, was mailed this morning.

Thank you, Pinecammers for your contributions!

Image

We also wish to thank all of our merchant participants for allowing our collection boxes in your respective places of business.

A special THANK YOU goes to the Pack N Mail in Conifer for donating the boxes, packing materials and almost half of the postage!

My Coast Guard Petty Officer daughter and her CPO have become very interested in our efforts here at Pinecam. My daughter emailed a new list of suggestions--some from female personnel with desert combat experience.

"Chief and I came up with these items --

sunglass holders
boxer shorts ( boys and girls)
disposable cameras
tiny pillows
toe socks

* pack with air popped popcorn in bags (to preserve it, no butter)

Chief has cousins in the Nat. Guard. They said boxers rock because the fine
sand gets everywhere and panties chaff. Toe socks will keep the sand out of
their toes. Regular boot socks or boot socks with the black cuff white feet
are good too. They go weeks without being able to do laundry and there are
no drug stores. A couple of lighters might be welcome also. Remember the
packages will be subject to intense heat...don't send candy or chocolate
that will melt.

Love you -- Sara"

Words from the pros who know what they'll use.
