Pinecam proudly announces our adoption of the Blacksheep Company, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry, known as The Rock, which has been deployed to Afghanistan this spring. Their primary purpose is to get the Afghanistan infrastructure, army, and police functioning. This is quite a departure from their traditional role but the battalion has embraced it and hopes to make a huge impact over the next 12 months or so. Your generosity and help can make a real, positive difference!

TSAC will be collecting donations for the Rock just as we currently do for B Company, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry. In fact, TSAC will be supporting both companies at the same time. In this topic, upcoming shipments to The Rock will be announced along with any special items that may be needed by the troops in Afghanistan. Shipments to B Company will continue to be announced here

For information on how to help us support both the Blacksheep Company and B Company, click on the following links:
Also, you can watch the Yellow Ribbon forum for special Support the Troops events.

The Rock has a long and illustrious history protecting our wonderful country and the values we all hold so dear. The following are excerpts from Rock History and 2nd BN (Airborne) 503rd in History:
"The Rock Battalion was constituted on March 14, 1941. The Battalion made the first combat jump in US Army history on November 8, 1942 near Lourmel, Algeria. Reassigned to the Pacific Theatre, the Battalion made three more combat jumps during World War II including the jump that liberated Corregidor Island in the Philippines earning its nickname, ?The Rock.? The Battalion next saw combat in Vietnam, assigned to the 173d Airborne Brigade. On February 22, 1967 the Battalion conducted the only major airborne assault of the war, Operation Junction City. The Battalion also participated in the battle for DAK TO. On December 16, 2001 the 2d Battalion (Airborne), 503d Infantry was assigned to the 173d Airborne Brigade and reactivated on January 25, 2002 in Vicenza, Italy."

"Less than one year from its activation and less then a month after the activation of its final rifle company, the Rock deployed to Operation Rapid Guardian 3-01 in Kosovo."

"In February 2004, after 11 months of combat operations the Rock began its redeployment to Italy having left behind a functional police force and a stable environment in the city of Kirkuk."

"Today the ROCK stands ready to accomplish any mission with the esprit and ?lan that it has demonstrated in the past."

Click here for The Rocks web page and more information about The Rock. Note: The Rock web site is a work in progress and not completed yet.

And, now in the Spring of 2005, The Rock has been deployed to Afghanistan where Pinecam, with your generous help, will provide support to the men of the Blacksheep Company. Ranger Bob, whom you may have seen posting here on Pinecam, is our contact with The Rock. He is the S5 (Public Affairs Officer) with the Blacksheep Company.

Ranger Bob wrote:
The great thing about this job is that, since the press no longer realizes that Afghanistan exists, the public that I am charged with dealing with are the Afghans. I am the liaison between my commander and the local leaders

The Blacksheep Company has men in every camp and can indirectly help us support the whole battalion. Click here for the topic "Places and Faces in Afghanistan" where we are posting pictures from Ranger Bob. Ranger Bob has land in Douglas County where he hopes to someday build a house and make Colorado his home.

Pinecammers have shown themselves to be the most generous people we?ve ever come across. Working together, you, Pinecam, and our team of merchants can give the soldiers of Blacksheep Company a taste of home while expressing our gratitude for their loyal service to their country.

:USA: We  our troops! Thank you for your generous support! :USA:

The Rock's headquarters is located in Qalat with two camps each located about 200 miles apart. Most of the Blacksheep Company are located in the main headquarters with men also stationed at the remote camps.

That's great. Do we need more money in our account yet?

We always need more money in our account! With two companies to support we will be running through our savings quickly. Equally important are donations to send to the troops. So anyone who is local please remember to drop things in the boxes around the community.

Our shipment to the Blacksheep was an interesting assortment of goodies and I am sure they will put everything to good use. The one thing they didn't get, and the troops seem to love is beef jerky and slimjims. Just an idea if you need one :D

The two shipments combined weighed almost 600 lbs. We still have some candies left over for the May shipment, but we're essentially out of goodies.

You and Mrs Mopar rock! I can always stop by your house after work to pick anything up. When you drive as far as I do everyday almost nuthin is out of the way!

Any other Pinecammers who dont want to leave donations in the boxes, please just let us know. Someone from the TSAC committee is sure to live nearby! You can PM us directly or send an e-mail to TSAC@Pinecam.com
