I thought this may be a good idea, as we are in the official
countdown to Christmas/Hannukah.
As we are nestled in the safety & comfort of our mountain homes,
perhaps it would be nice to take a few minutes to send a greeting to
our men & women in uniform- who are so far away from their loved ones.
A friend sent the following to me, & I thought it would be fitting to share:

************************************************************
"A touching tribute to the military you may enjoy.
The Sands of Christmas by Michael Marks

I had no Christmas spirit when I breathed a weary sigh, And looked across the table where the bills were piled too high. The laundry wasn't finished and the car I had to fix, My stocks were down another point, the Dolphins lost by six.

And so with only minutes till my son got home from school I gave up on the drudgery and grabbed a wooden stool. The burdens that I carried were about all I could take, And so I flipped the TV on to catch a little break.

I came upon a desert scene in shades of tan and rust, No snowflakes hung upon the wind, just clouds of swirling dust. And where the reindeer should have stood before a laden sleigh, Eight hummers ran a column right behind an M-1A.

A group of boys walked past the tank, not one was past his teens, Their eyes were hard as polished flint, their faces drawn and lean. They walked the street in armor with their rifles shouldered tight, Their dearest wish for Christmas, just to have a silent night.

Other soldiers gathered, hunkered down against the wind, To share a scrap of mail and dreams of going home again. There wasn't much at all to put their lonely hearts at ease, They had no Christmas turkey, just a pack of MREs.

They didn't have a garland or a stocking I could see, They didn't need an ornament, they lacked a Christmas tree. They didn't have a present even though it was tradition, The only boxes I could see were labeled "ammunition."

I felt a little tug and found my son now by my side, He asked me what it was I feared, and why it was I cried. I swept him up into my arms and held him oh so near And kissed him on the forehead as I whispered in his ear.

There's nothing wrong my little son, for safe we sleep tonight, Our heroes stand on foreign land to give us all the right, To worry on the things in life that mean nothing at all, Instead of wondering if we will be the next to fall.

He looked at me as children do and said it's always right, To thank the ones who help us and perhaps that we should write. And so we pushed aside the bills and sat to draft a note, To thank the many far from home, and this is what we wrote.

God bless you all and keep you safe, and speed your way back home. Remember that we love you so, and that you're not alone. The gift you give you share with all, a present every day, You give the gift of liberty and that we can't repay. "
*************************************************************

To all who have served, and are serving today-
THANK YOUs and best wishes,
I'm sending your way!
LBL

To my Troops

You are my heroes, you sacrifice your life for me and my freedom, You have spent close to a year away from your wife and your children who will soon learn what it is like when Daddy isnt home for Christmas. Your wife will miss you the most as she is also a warrior, raising children all alone, and living with fear

Married or not, your families are also missing you and sleep about as soundly as you do.

Your efforts, courage, and dedication are greatly appreciated.

Yes, you and your families are heroes

I appreciate the sacrifice of all the military families and wish you all a Merry Christmas.

Wishing you and yours moment of peace
Peggy

Thanks for all you do for us to keep us safe. For whatever holiday you celebrate or don't celebrate at this time of the year, be at peace and enjoy the moment. And remember that there are a whole lot of people here thinking of you at the same moment.

I was a troop out in the sandbox about 2 and a half years ago and it feels good to see people back home appreciating the luxuries and freedoms we have here due to the protection of our military. Merry Christmas Pinecam.

As we prowl the crowded stores and prepare our feasts, let us remember those who serve to protect us and our culture. You who give up these pleasures as well as the close association with family are the truest of American heroes. I call upon all Americans everywhere to honor those who defend not only us, but indirectly all of the world.

Thank you for all you do to!! Now more than ever I think of each thing we are able to do freely in this country & know our troops fight to preserve that.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you!

Hanukkah is a good holiday for warriors, and for those who remember them. It celebrates the capture of the temple three years into the Maccabees' war for independence against the Syrian Greeks; the miracle of the oil commemorated by the Hanukkah menorah is a nice bonus. For those of you who celebrate Hanukkah, and for those who don't, my children and I will be lighting a candle for you.

Clash, Israel, the cymbals, touch the lyre,
Sound the brass trumpet and the harsh-tongued horn,
Chant hymns of victory till the heart take fire,
The Maccabean spirit leap new-born!
