Donating Toys
Small toys and children's books are especially welcome items. Our troops hand them out to the Afghanistan children who really appreciate them. In August, Ranger Bob send us pictures of the Battalion Commander giving out some toys donated by Pinecammers. Here are two of them:

Baby wipes
for lack of a better description, the guys really appreciate these.
Keep in mind that the 503rd Blacksheep are in a fairly remote area of Afghanistan. their comforts are few and the conditions are harsh. Wouldn't it just feel great to wash the grime off your face?

So if you are in the position to donate, we will be at Safeway next Saturday the 24th

Bubbles-
Someone had asked me what size package of baby wipes would be best,
and I suggested the travel pack size rather than the honkin' big container size- (figuring the smaller would be easier to stuff in their packs and or pockets...).
(Is that correct?)

Regardless, we'll be more than happy to recieve what the fine folks of our mountain communities bring to us! We hope to see a lot of your smiling Pinecam faces on Saturday!

He is, although as a true Polish person, he tries to hide it. But, we know better Mopar. :)

We have recently been made aware of another need, and it combines our military support as well as helping those who are helping out in Katrina's wake. The Coast Gaurd is down there, working around the clock to help.
This is from one of our TSAC members, (A proud Coast Gaurd Mom...)

" I just spoke with my daughter this afternoon. She is currently stationed in Anchorage. She could be going to New Orleans any time. The relative handful of Public Affairs Officers all along the Gulf of Mexico are way overloaded right now. They have been augmented with the temporary deployment of 14 additional PAs from any station which can spare them, but more will be needed.

Sara tells me there are 2300 homeless Coasties in the disaster area, all still on the job. She says, though, there is a very current, pressing need among the PA detachment for two crucial items: dark blue crew neck T-shirts and heavy dark blue socks for wearing with boots. Laundry facilities are limited.

We have started collecting these items already,
and will have a separate box for these at our table on Saturday!
As always, you generousity will be greatly appriciated!
Be sure to stop by!

It looks like it is going to be an extremely busy weekend for Pinecammers. We have all these events:
Adopt a highway
Music in the meadow
Shooting Range clean-up
A golf tournament
and Support the Troops at Safeway
not to mention all the things that need to be done around the house

It all seems pretty overwhelming and whenever you turn around some else is asking for more of your time and money. I had considered asking TSAC if we should cancel our troop event, however on second thought I realized that our efforts and mission to support the troops in Afghanistan has not changed at all, nor been diminished by all that is going on in the Gulf Coast.

We have soldiers over there who are also Victims of Katrina and Rita. The difference is they are half a world away and cant protect and provide for their families. At this time I think a few comfort items from home will be greatly appreciated. We also plan on sending a bunch of phone cards in this shipment and that seems to be timely

Actually we have expanded our efforts. We are now trying to help the Coast Guard that are serving in the hurricane areas. Did you realize that many of those men and women plucking people off rooftops were flying over their own destroyed homes? They are in great need of dark blue t-shirts and socks. We will be sending them directly to the Coasties. So if you cant make it to town today and want to contribute to this cause we will accept donations and make a run to Sam's Club for you.

I know everyone has their hand out right now, but this is a generous community and there is a great need right now.

Hope to meet some of you tomorrow at Safeway, even if it is just stop by and say Hi.

(Plus Mylz will be showing off her split fingers!)
