Please stop by and visit with the Troop Support Advisory Committee and Pinecam volunteers at the Conifer Safeway on Saturday, September 24, from 10:00 to 3:00. We will be collecting items to send to the troops. Money donations will also be appreciated! Click here for some suggested items to donate.

A few Pinecam Support the Troops yellow ribbons are left so if you don't have yours yet, this is a good time to purchase one.

Also, if you would like to wear something that shows your support for our troops, TSAC will have the following items at their table:

The troops love to hear from folks back home, so if you want to include a note in our next shipment, drop it by our table. We'll make sure it gets sent to our troops.

Please mark your calendars for our collection event Saturday, September 24, and check back often to this topic for updated information.

Where is the best place to get phone cards (more bang for the buck)?

That's a good question, mylz2go. Ranger Bob, our contact with the Blacksheep Company, has suggested that the troops would appreciate phone cards so they can call their loved ones back home more often. I don't know the answer, any one have any ideas?

If someone is shopping in Safeway on Saturday, can they buy phone cards there?

I have seen phone cards at Safeway. I don't know that they're any less expensive anywhere else, but the only place they might be would be Wal-Mart...

Sam's Club
A, T & T 60 minute phone cards
12 pack
$24.87

120 minute phone card
7 pack
$29.14

That's 3.47 cents per minute

That's even cheaper than A, T & T sells them on their website!

Just called Costco - gal told me they won't quote prices over the phone but they only sell MCI's 670 minute card. That's not a multi-pack, that's 670 on ONE card. She did tell me that their price is in the "same ballpark" as Sam's Club. So if we want to get cards to as many guys as possible the 60 or 120's from Sam's Club is the way to go.

Someone mentioned at the picnic that we should consider sending 120-minutes cards as a minimum, because the troops have to deal with an international operator to set up the calls and the set-up time counts against the minutes. A 60-minute card may give them 20 or 30 minutes of actual talk time, which is a real bummer.

Anyone have any confirmation of this?

The international call rates vary from country to country. I was briefly browsing the A, T & T website which gave a little explanation, but I didn't look into it further. Which is why I quoted the 60 and 120 minute cards.
If you go to the Sam's website they probably have 20 different phone cards to choose from.

Costco only had 2.

If anyone happens to pass a Summer Clearance Bin, & sees some flyswatters...
well, that's what the guys said!

Believe me folks, a few minutes of your time to gather & drop off a few items, really makes a soldier smile! We knew that from the e-mails we'd received. It was reinforced when we welcomed the Baker Boys home a few months ago. It was again mentioned this past Saturday when we got a chance to visit with some of the Boys at the picnic! (They continued to thank us and express how it made life a little bit more bearable having some goodies from home!)

We thank you for your help in supporting the troops!

Oh that's right, Lo-bay Lady, some of the Baker Boys were at the Pinecam Picnic/Potluck. How many came up from Colorado Springs? Did you all at the picnic get to visit with them much? Get any other hints about what they especially appreciated in the shipments? Or would have appreciated if only we had known to include it?
