Press Release
Pinecam.com's TSAC reports on safe return of adopted unit, on summer troop support activities, and successful fund raising and shipping program

BAILEY, Colorado - Pinecam.com is a community-based Internet discussion forum formed by a diverse, wide-spread mountain community. TSAC, the Troop Support Action Committee, was the result of the growth of a segment of Pinecam's community which desired to demonstrate support for the troops overseas. Operating informally since 2003 and by formal charter since February, 2005, TSAC has pledged to provide moral, emotional and comfort support to American troops serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.

A highlight of TSAC's summer was the recent return from Iraq of one of our adopted units, the Baker Boys, Co B, 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment (Airborne). Adopted by Pinecam in December of 2004, the unit , originally out of Ft Hood, TX, returned to the US on August 22, 2005 at Ft Carson, Colorado. Members of TSAC were allowed to join the families welcoming the 506th. Those of us able to attend found it to be one of the most moving events we had ever witnessed. We mingled with the troops and their families following the brief but emotionally intense welcoming ceremony. We were repeatedly astonished by being introduced to family members as "those Pinecam people." The wives and mothers would hug us and exclaim,"Oh! TSAC! You people are awesome!" or "Pinecam! You folks ROCK!" We would murmur about what a small thing it was, no big deal, just packed a few boxes, that's all. Troops and their relatives repeatedly told us what an enormous difference it made, not just to the troops, but to their families as well, knowing that strangers cared so much for their loved ones. 1st SGT Jesse Rodriguez of Baker Co, told us that TSAC's support had changed his opinion of civilians. A 20-year military man, he formerly was convinced that civilians had no consideration for nor comprehension of the life in the military. The Pinecam community has proven to 1st SGT Rodriguez that civilians do care and do understand and appreciate that our freedom and liberty come through the sacrifices of families such as his own. We feel honored to have become acquainted with 1st SGT Rodriguez and his family.

TSAC continues to support the Blacksheep Company of the 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment (Airborne).

June, July and August have seen multiple shipments by TSAC members of a phenomenal quantity of a wide assortment of items contributed by members of our far-flung mountain community. TSAC operates collection boxes in space donated by over a dozen area merchants. In addition to the collection boxes, TSAC sponsors fund raising events in the area. On June 25th, we accepted donations at Bailey Day, the annual summer celebration in tiny Bailey, Colorado, featuring entertainment, crafts, foods, a black powder shoot and drawing crowds from a 50-mile radius. The following weekend, on July 2 and 3, TSAC held another fund raiser at the Safeway center in Conifer, the main retail center for a mountain area about 40 miles southwest of Denver. Cash donations for the three days topped $1000. Many people came to Safeway specifically to give TSAC food, toiletries, books, videos and DVD's. The summer fund raising events have allowed TSAC to ship in the past three months a total of 36 boxes, weighing 1099 pounds, including 55 lbs of home-baked cookies, brownies and breads. The August shipment brought our total pounds shipped since January of 2004 to 6199 pounds, or 3.10 tons! Three tons of what? Socks; T-shirts; jerky, candy, power bars; chips and salsa; powdered drink mixes; peanuts; boxes of Hamburger Helper, mac and cheese and ramen and ramen and more ramen. And then there are the razors, shaving cream, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and dental floss; shampoo, conditioner, soap; lotions and sunblock; and the several hundred magic-crystal-filled neck coolers made by TSAC volunteers--the word from"Ranger Bob", Public Affairs Officer to the 503rd and Pinecam poster prior to his deployment, is that the coolers "work great!"; and we can't forget the many pounds of spicy Texas Trash, a homemade snack, much admired by our adopted troops.

The TSAC committee is proud of the generosity of our Pinecam.com Internet community, without which TSAC's activities would be impossible.

Pinecam

This community really has a spirit and a soul! Unlike anything I have ever seen before. This is truly an amazing show of support for the TROOPS and their families, and a tribute to the people of Pinecam. :yeapinecam:

Crowfeather, I think you caught the spirit of our community beautifully :wavingflag:

Ah, Mopar, somehow I'm not sure the biggest troublemaker we deal with is in the mirror but just might be a Polack on Pinecam.com with a nick that starts with an "M". But, I could be mistaken.
