:usaflag: Pinecam Has Adopted a Combat Unit in Iraq :usaflag:

Our good friends at The Flume recently contacted Pinecam to enlist our help in supporting the troops of the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division now stationed in Iraq. We?ve made some inquiries and agree that this would be an excellent candidate for adoption.

The active-duty soldiers of the 1st Battalion were deployed from the South Korean DMZ area to IRAQ for a one-year mission. The unit is stationed at Camp Manhattan, Habbaniyah Airbase, IRAQ, in and around the city of Ar Ramadi, which lies within the infamous Sunni Triangle (see map). This is about 100 miles to the west of Baghdad. The 506th is scheduled to remain in Iraq until September 2005, when they will deploy to their new home at Fort Carson, CO.

The 1-506 is known for it's battle cry of Currahee (Cherokee for stands alone), parachuted into France to support the D-Day landings and won 25 Distinguished Service Crosses in its fight across Europe before capturing Adolf Hitler?s Eagles Nest. E "Easy" Company?s World War II exploits were immortalized in the Band of Brothers book and television series. Since arriving in Iraq, the unit has seen considerable combat action, including the recent operation in the city of Fallujah. Unfortunately, the unit has seen its share of casualties as well.

A local soldier is currently serving with the battalion?s B "Baker" Company. Cosmiccowboy has made contact with the unit?s First Sergeant who is honored that Pinecam would consider adopting his company. We are therefore extremely pleased to announce that we have selected B Company as our adopted military unit.

Towards that end, we will be collecting donations from our readers on a recurring basis until this bunch of fine soldiers arrive in Fort Carson in 2005.

Pinecammers are the most generous people we?ve ever come across. Once again, we come to you to make this worthy cause a reality. Together with you and our team of merchants, we can give these soldiers a taste of home while expressing our gratitude for their loyal service to their country.

Here is a list of suggested items suitable for shipment to Iraq.

Tips/Suggestions

When you prepare a box or bag for drop-off, you should identify the item with your screen name. Although the soldiers will know it came from Pinecam, your screen name on the item may trigger a correspondence with this soldier ? and after all, that?s one of our main goals and is one of their main desires.

Try to contribute products that are individually wrapped to assist in the distribution of the items.

You might consider creating variety packs containing a number of items a typical individual might use. And if you wish to establish contact with some of these folks, don?t forget to place a note or a card stating your screen name.

For those of you who wish to contribute money to defray the cost of postage to Iraq, here is the address:

Please make checks payable to:

Pinecam, Inc
PO Box 2552
Dillon, CO 80435

Since this is a general address for Pinecam, please indicate in the Memo field of the check how you desire the funds be used, i.e.;

Troops
General expenses
Other (please specify)

As always, your generosity is so appreciated.

:USA: First Shipment Scheduled for Tuesday, Dec 7

Because we never really stopped collecting donations after the return of the 45th from Afghanistan, we have enough stored goodies to send an immediate Christmas shipment to the troops in Baker Company. This shipment consists of books and toiletries and will ship next Tuesday.

Based on correspondence, the items the troops in Iraq value the most are canned goods, assorted food stuffs, DVDs and tapes. We could use more of these items.

Also, any Pinecammers who wish to contribute baked goods for this shipment should let us know in advance so we can plan for their special packaging and mailing. We would appreciate it if these could be ready by Monday. Please PM me, or cosmiccowboy55 or BigJer to arrange for pick up.

We want to thank all of those generous Pinecammers who continued to think of the troops.

My check is already there, and I will start another toward there to help with the next shipment's mailing costs. If I can I'll send some Texas trash too.

Thank you, as always, dp. Your heart is a big as your generosity. Thought you'd like to know that a hearty portion of your excellent Texas Trash will be included in Tuesday's shipment. I'm sure the troops will love it and ask for more.

My Wife and I would like to thank all of the Pinecam members, contributors, businesses, and especially the administrators.

I cannot adequately express what the things all of you send mean to these Soldiers. A touch of home, a kind word, something to snack on, (that doesn't come from an MRE 'Meals Ready to Eat' rations) a short note and most of all, the feeling that we all care about and support them.

Our Son Paul, is a Combat Line Medic, who is probobly in Ar-Ramadi on IED and Insurgent patrol with his unit as I write this. He, and his comrades have already seen their share of things most of us don't really want to know about. He and his battle buddies will be grateful for the things you send, say, and do. Even a short rest (usually 6-8 hours at the most) with a cookie, a video game or just a short letter from home, back at the base after a patrol means more than you can ever know. It provides an important, albeit short, feeling of home, friends, family, and loved ones!

God Bless all of You,

And Thank you on behalf of my Son Paul X. "Doc" Johnson and all of the 'Band of Brothers' in B company 1st 506th Currahees. Camp Manhattan, Iraq.

Ann and Scott Johnson

You folks must be mighty proud. It'll be an honor to support your son and his fellow soldiers. We will keep their bellies full and pray to God to keep them safe.

And, we do think of the family at the homefront, too! We want to get to know you...

Stop by and post in our "New Posters" forum and talk a spell.

We'd love to see you at the party, too!

Reminder

We will be visiting the collection boxes on Monday to prepare for the Tuesday shipment. If you have Christmas-related gifts to donate, this is the shipment you want to send them in.

Please remember to let us know if you have baked goods to send. We will give those special handling and, if necessary, ship them on an as-needed basis. Don't forget that shipments to Iraq have a long transit time, so any baked goods should be packed airtight.

As we've mentioned in the past, please do not donate any items that violate the law or are offensive to the host country. These include weapons, ammunitions, pornography and spirits of any kind. All donations are inspected by us before they are mailed. Any items found to be offensive or in violation of postal regulations will have to be removed.

We thank you for your generosity.

:USA: First Shipment Is On Its Way! :USA:

Our first shipment to B Company is on its way to Iraq.

Image

We want to thank all of those generous supporters who contributed the many varied items now on their way to that combat zone. The troops will love all of them.

We especially wanted to acknowledge the sizable contribution made by TSS Incorporated (donor's name witheld by Pinecam for privacy reasons) on behalf of the troops. The goody bags were as plentiful as they were well-stocked. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

For those of you who donated funds to help defray the cost of postage, thank you so very much. This shipment was a heavy one costing in excess of $300. Please remember that your cash donations are as important to this effort as the goods we collect. Without them we simply couldn't afford the shipments.

We would like to solicit assistance from any business or individual who would like to sponsor the cost of one or more future shipments. This is yet another way of showing your appreciation for our men and women in uniform serving in a distant land.

Lastly, we'd like remind everyone that the next shipment is scheduled for two weeks from now. Please visit our merchant collection points and drop in whatever you can in support of our troops. If you have a special shipment, such as baked goods, please contact one of the committee members (Henry, cosmiccowboy55 or BigJer) and let us know. We will make special arrangements to pick these items up and ship them on a priority basis.

Again, thank you all for contributing to this Christmas shipment to the troops. :USA:
