Kyle called today with some of the best news I've had in a long time.

This morning he received orders to report to the 13th Air Support Operations Sqadron NLT 31 Dec 2010.

He's got almost 3 years left on this enlistment so he'll be here for at least 3 years.

He and his bride will be moving up here some time in Nov or Dec from Ft Hood.

I'm slightly excited about this.

How big is your smile?
You didn't say where "the 13th Air Support Operations Sqadron NLT 31 " is based,
but by your tone, I'm gathering that it's pretty close!

Congrats on the great news!!

Sorry...

I was a little excited when I made that post.

The 13th ASOS is at Ft Carson.

Well, it's that time again.

Seems like only yesterday I was in San Antonio at Kyle's graduation from Basic Military Training.

Since then we've seen him go from an E1 to E5 (with possible E6 news in late June), earn various awards for leadership, earn a Bronze Star w/Valor, 2 Army Commendation Medals, 3 Air Force Commendation Medals, 2 Air Force Achievement Medals and 1 Army Achievement Medal with various campaign medals and ribbons.

Now he's off to Afghanistan for tour #6 later this week.

It'll be nice having the DIL in the Springs, though, while he's gone.

A long overdue update:

Kyle celebrated his 12th anniversary in the Air Force yesterday while on his 7th combat deployment. He left in Feb and is due home in Nov.

Also on his 12th anniversary since enlisting in the Air Force, Kyle was selected for promotion to Master Sergeant (E7). Senior NCOs are the backbone of the AF and MSgt is the first, and hardest, to get. Average time to make E7 is 16.9 years (depending on who's stats you look at...but it's right around there).

I can't even begin to find the words to adequately express how proud I continue to be of him and what he's accomplished in so little time.

Please give him my congratulations from a retired E7 (USN).

We, too, remain very proud of Kyle and his achievements. He is truly an awesome young man with all the smarts, energy and focus I could wish on anyone. We love him and wish him the very best always.

Brief update: Kyle was officially promoted to Master Sgt (E7) on April 1, 2016 at a promotions ceremony at Ft Carson. I'm hoping for a picture soon.

Good grief how time flies. I started this thread over 10 years ago. Kyle enlisted on July 15, 2003. 7 combat deployments, a Bronze Star for heroism, several other medals, 2 "Airman/NCO of the Year" awards and now he's a Senior Non-Commissioned Officer. All that and he still had time to marry one of the finest young ladies I've ever known (who's no slouch in the achievement department herself...working on her Master's in Nursing).

I couldn't be happier for, or more proud of, the both of them.
