Synopsis: An upper level weather system will move across the area today into this evening and then exit the region late tonight. Snow will continue in the mountains and spread across the plains today. The snow may be mixed with rain below 5000 feet through this afternoon.

The main travel impacts will be in the mountains, foothills, and Palmer Divide today through this evening, where snow covered roads and hazardous travel conditions can be expected. Over the I-25 Urban Corridor, mainly wet roads can be expected through this afternoon, but as temperatures drop this evening snow will start to accumulate on roads. Bridges and overpasses will be first affected.

Snow will impact travel today through tonight over the higher terrain with icy and snow covered roads. At lower elevations due to warm pavement, the snow will struggle to accumulate on roads this morning through the afternoon.

The long-term outlook through Tuesday: An exiting storm system will still result in a chance of light snow early Saturday morning, mainly along the Palmer Divide and mountains. Continued cold on Saturday with a slow decrease in cloudiness. Another weaker system will result in continued snow showers in the mountains and southern Front Range foothills Saturday afternoon and night but only light accumulations expected. Dry and warmer conditions are expected from late Sunday through Tuesday.

Watches & Warnings

Winter Storm Warning for the southern Foothills and Palmer Divide ABOVE 6,000 feet today until midnight.

Winter Weather Advisory for the Mountains, northern Foothills and I-25 urban Corridor today through this evening.

Hazardous Weather Outlook for today and tonight: A winter storm system will be moving across the state today and then exit the area late tonight. Snow will continue across the mountains, the Front Range Foothills, Palmer Divide and develop across portions of the northeast plains. Snow accumulations of several inches in the mountains, foothills and across the Palmer Divide will affect travel today through tonight. Lighter snow accumulations are expected on the plains, however, slippery roads will develop along the I-25 urban corridor especially this evening as temperatures drop below freezing. Snow will diminish late tonight over the area.

For Saturday through Thursday: There will be a continued chance of snow over the Palmer Divide and mountain areas, mainly along and south of the Interstate 70 corridor through Saturday night. A weak disturbance will result in the additional light snowfall. Drier and warmer conditions are expected from Sunday through early Tuesday. Additional moisture will bring another chance of snow to the mountains from late Tuesday through Thursday. Lower elevations will remain dry and mild through the middle of next week.
