Thanks avsgirl. Because the care for them is an on going monthly expense and Kirt has indicated she is financially unable to maintain care for them on her own I think it's going to have to be a rescue or sanctuary, or an individual(s) that can financially support them. If they were at Kirts it would take a steady flow of monthly donations to support them. Horses can cost $250 or so per horse per month. Please keep the thoughts, ideas and prayers coming. I am running out of time.

Perhaps you could post information at the Horse Expo this weekend?

I also posted on FB and did see it circulating via another horse person I know who has many contacts.
Was Denkai not able to help? Trying to think of any other rescues or networking possibilities. I guess you could also try Craigslist as a last resort, you'd just have to be very careful. |

Sorry in advance for this but it's been one of those days.....people....there are more horses out there than people who want them or who can afford to care for them. As hard as it is, it's a fact. Take responsibility for the animals you have from cradle to grave and to those who are picking up the slack looking after others' critters a huge thanks. However, in the end the final responsibility may be yours too.

However, in the end the final responsibility may be yours too. It's a bit harder with horses than dogs or cats. Horses live longer, the cost of feeding them goes up drastically during the years of their life and that is not always easy to predict. People's lives can change many times over during a horse's life and sometimes when one once had them on their own property and find themselves having to move may encounter double the cost in boarding them somewhere else. I don't know BaileyBlueSkies situation fully, but I do feel for her predicament she is in. _________________ Money is an anaesthetic for conscience |

Perhaps CChauncy you should read my initial post. The horses are not mine to begin with. Their owner died. Would you care to hold the lead rope while they die?

CChauncey, I agree with you but this particular forum is really not the place to make your point since BaileyBlueSkies is (and has been) going above and beyond to help someone else's horses who were left in her care by default...not by her choice. I wish more people in the world had the same feeling of responsibility and ownership that she has demonstrated over the past two years for these horses that would normally have been shipped off to slaughter without a thought.
Yes, many people should take more responsibility for the breeding, ownership, and care of their animals...I completely agree there, I just think the focus of this forum should be on finding care for two horses that were left for BBS to care for. I am so impressed by the diligence and effort that she has shown to try to find homes for them. Let's keep working on finding them homes, please! |

Baileyblueskies, yes I would if it came to that and my heart goes out to you with what you're dealing with. I think what you're doing and have done is incredible and truly hope another very caring person/group will be able to help these horses out. I did read and understand the OP and your situation.

cchauncey, thank you, I am super sensitive right now as I fear the worse and I simply do not want to face that day. And yes I wish people would plan better but unfortunately it doesn't always work out that way. I just don't know how to bear the pain of this. I so deeply appreciate everyone's support and efforts. We have a little more time, maybe a miracle will happen.
